I've always been a fan of historic race cars but never had the budget for a genuine race car driven by one of the greats like Jerry Titus. This 67 Mustang is the next best thing. All the looks without the cost or worry. I started with a very nice yet humble 67 C-code coupe. Next came a full rotisserie paint refinish, monster 351W, T5 trans and a 9" rear end with 3.70 gears. Wicked fast and very driveable. Let the pictures speak for themselves. Nothing has been left untouched. Everywhere you look this car is fantastic. No expense was spared to make this the nicest looking and most driveable Mustang possible. I wanted all the looks without the fussiness of a full tilt race car. This car was built with tours, car shows and road trips in mind.
The heart of any race car has to be the engine and this one is no exception. It's a 351W built by Engine Connection in Booneville Mo. The bottom end is balanced, full Comp Cams valvetrain package with screw in studs and roller rockers. The cylinder heads have been fully ported and polished. On top of the aluminum intake sits a 670 Holley Street Demon carb. Hedman Headers deliver the spent gases to the side exiting exhaust. The T5 trans is a World Class reman and the 9" rear is built all new bearings and seals. Obviously the brakes are all new with big discs up front.
Moving on to the interior - it's all new. All soft parts are brand new. All metal surfaces have been painted. All new gauge bezels, lenses and dash trim. The steering wheel is a genuine polished wood rim. Front seat belts are 3" wide competition belts just like the race cars had. Rear seat belt are new reproduction. The heater box was rebuilt with a new foam/seal kit, new copper/brass heater core and new control cables. The master control on the drivers side was completely disassembled, cleaned, painted and sliding mechanism lubed. It works just like new.
The clutch mechanism is a cable conversion from California Pony Cars. During the conversion the underdash pedal support was removed, cleaned painted and all new bushings and sleeves installed.
The wheels are Vintage 45's size 16 X 8 with Sumitomo 225/50ZR16 tires. With Z speed rating (149 mph) these summer high performance tires should be adequate for anything you can throw at them.
When I built the front suspension I used brand new Scott Drake complete control arms, new coil spring saddles, new strut rod bushings, KYB shocks all the way around and all new tie rods/adjusting sleeves. The front springs and sway are factory 67 GT parts. In my opinion it's easy to overdue springs and sway bars and end up with some thing rides like a lumber wagon. It's tough to beat factory engineering and I've always been happy with stock GT suspension, KYB gas shocks and fat 8 " wide wheels. This is the best compromise of handling and ride quality.
I could go on and on about of the minuscule details that went into this car. If I have overlooked something by all means give me a call or send me an email.
